There's a long-ish essay in my book "Hine's Varieties: Chaos and Beyond" that examines the process of leaving magical groups and various factors such as scapegoating and demonization and how asocial behaviors are made out to be representative of transgression. You might like it.

Naturally, Marco, I agree with much of what you say here. I spent 20 years in OTO inc. and know well the several alternate claimants to that mantle and that of the A:.A:. -- all dubious. These are, in my view, no more nor less than cults. Anyone who knows Bill personally, as I do, should feel silly swearing blood-oaths to - him. I think the U.S. Courts did a disservice even hearing a case violating the principle of church-state separation, one of the pillars of U.S. democracy. Most of the public critics miss the point. This isn't a sinister branch of 'the illuminati' nor a viable 'army of Thelema' (whatever that means). It is, at best, a tiny club with zero impact on anyone beyond a handful of aging hippies. Hierarchy is incompatable with The Great Work.
