My Journey into Aleister Crowley’s Mysticism
Writing Aleister Crowley's Mysticism: A Practical Guide felt both like a continuation of my life's work and a new quest altogether. My earlier book, The Aleister Crowley Manual, focused on the "doing" side of magick: establishing daily practices, building your magical pyramid step by step, and cultivating foundational techniques like banishing rituals and the Body of Light. This time, I wanted to illuminate the inner, contemplative core that underpins those outer forms.
Mysticism—especially the Holy Guardian Angel—sits at the heart of Thelema but can be elusive for newcomers. When I finished The Aleister Crowley Manual, I kept returning to questions of spiritual union and the deeper meaning behind Crowley's teachings. That pull led me to write Aleister Crowley's Mysticism: A Practical Guide, shifting from the mechanics of ritual to the mystical experience that gives ritual its power.
I also aimed to keep Crowley's original vision intact while ensuring these concepts would resonate with modern readers. That meant simplifying some of the language but preserving the depth. Along the way, my own practice grew in unexpected ways. I confronted subtle challenges—like the psychological hurdles of self-honesty and the delicate balance between devotion and discipline.
Ultimately, I see this new guide as a companion piece to The Aleister Crowley Manual, offering a more direct path toward your inner awakening. If the Manual was about laying a firm magical foundation, this book is about ascending toward the divine source within.
